Novak Djokovic is the current number 1 player of the ATP, and no matter your view on him, you have to admit that he deserves his spot. With the French Open approaching, it’s time to take a realistic look at Novak’s chances of winning the event. If you want to find out our opinion on whether Djokovic will win the 2016 French Open or not, read the following lines.
Is Rafael Nadal going to be a big threat?
The best player on clay of all-time is definitely Rafael Nadal. Unfortunately for him, he has seen a decay in shape in the last year, but this doesn’t mean that the Spanish player won’t be able to make a spectacular comeback and regain his title as the “King of Clay”. Rafael Nadal has already won the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters championship, this victory putting him back on track when it comes to his game. Also, he didn’t do very well at the French Open last year, losing in the quarter-finals to none other than Novak Djokovic. This will probably make him thirsty for revenge this year. Therefore, we predict that Novak will have a hard time passing the Spanish player if they meet here this year.
The French Open is the only Grand Slam he didn’t win
The fact that the French Open is the only Grand Slam that Novak Djokovic hasn’t won yet definitely makes him feel frustrated. Last year, everyone thought that Novak will finally win the title when he encountered Stanislas Wawrinka in the final. Unfortunately for him, the Swiss played amazing and won the title. This was a great shock for all tennis fans, even for those who don’t really care for the Serbian player. His experience and the fact that he was seeded number 1 at that time made him the clear favorite. What we suspect is that when Novak found out who he was playing against, he underestimated Stanislas Wawrinka, and as the game played and the Swiss dominated, he couldn’t react properly anymore.
The pressure put on Djokovic might affect him
Being ranked as the best player in the world in tennis comes with a lot of pressure. This might take a toll on the Serbian player’s game as well. The fact that he hasn’t won this Grand Slam yet and the humiliating loss that he suffered here last year might not have a positive effect on him. If he manages to remain calm and look at the situation as it is, he will be able to accept his past defeats and he will probably win. But if he lets his failures overcome his psychic, Novak will surely be defeated this year as well.
It’s hard to say with certainty that Novak Djokovic will win or lose the 2016 French Open because only time will tell. But we predict that as long as Rafael Nadal is able to win on clay, the Serbian player won’t hold this trophy above his head. The factors that we have already discussed will probably make him lose once again. This doesn’t mean that we don’t give him any credit. After all, he is the number 1 tennis player in the world. But the fact that the “King of Clay” still plays, and the fact that there is a lot of pressure put on him make us believe that it isn’t his time to shine at this tournament yet.
